Barn Hill has been offering pain relief with the Alexander technique since 1995.  Sessions take place in a pleasant quiet room overlooking a garden in north Wembley,  with an experienced teacher, Yvette Daoust

Clients come to Barn Hill Alexander from Kenton, Kingsbury, Harrow, Pinner and all areas of north west London.

How pain develops

As toddlers we move with grace and economy, but as we get older most of us start to stiffen, twist or droop.

Often these habits are occupational, computer stoop or multi-skewing for example.  They cause increasing discomfort, but because we aren't aware of them  we don't connect them with our chronic tiredness or  increasing pain. Ignoring these signs can lead to repetitive strain injury.

How Barn Hill Alexander can help

At Barn Hill Alexander,  I help you to become more aware of what you are doing to yourself, and to change by moving more thoughtfully. You learn to take care of yourself and avoid strain.

A major study published by the British Medical Journal in 2008 demonstrated that  Alexander technique lessons significantly helped sufferers of low back pain, and that the benefits lasted.  Another randomised controlled trial is now under way at the University of York into its effect on chronic neck pain. This article in the Yorkshire Post gives brief details.

      Hurray!  No more pain!

What surprised me was the gentleness of pace. I was rather dreading lots of exercises. The mix of thought and action suits me well. Enough material to take away and work into my day.

                                          Multi-skewing

Since beginning the AlexanderTechnique I have not  had one session of physiotherapy. After 30 years of back problems I no longer think of myself with a back problem!
