Lessons at Barn Hill Alexander 020 8908 2604

At Barn Hill Alexander, you learn to move in a way which does not cause you pain. Lessons take
place in a peaceful room overlooking a garden. Because each pupil is an
individual, my teaching is based on compassion and respect for their
particular needs.
I take people through simple actions,
getting into or out of a chair, lying down, walking. These are
movements we make every day, and improving them with the help of verbal
and
hands-on guidance can be energizing as well as gradually lessening pain.

The hands-on work is a specific
skill which
Alexander teachers develop in the course of their training. It feels
very gentle,
but it can be powerful.
Gradually
you undo old habits and allow yourself to move in a easier, pain-free way
without the help of the teacher.
Beyond pain relief
Many of my clients at Barn Hill Alexander find they soon forget the pain which first brought them to have lessons, and speak of a feeling of
lightness, ease and effortlessness. When you learn to use
your natural mechanisms for coordination, balance and posture, you can rediscover your natural poise and move more gracefully. Sessions at Barn Hill Alexander help you not to stress your joints -- and also to cope better with all forms of stress.
By
applying the technique you use your energy more efficiently. Because
you waste less energy tensing up, you have more to spend on your loved
ones, on your work, on what
you value most in life.
How many lessons?
Most people improve
with even just
a few lessons.
But a course of fifteen to twenty-five is a better investment -- you will not only learn to manage pain, you will learn to avoid it. You go away with a wonderful lifelong skill: moving in a lighter and more fluid
way and avoiding pain. Most people start by coming to Barn Hill Alexander once a week, then space the lessons
out
as they gain confidence; this also spreads the cost.
Between
lessons, you can also choose to join the Barn Hill Alexander
Pupils Group and access my website of Alexander tips for releasing pain.
