Learning with Yvette Daoust

Tailor-made Alexander teaching
At Barn Hill Alexander, lessons are one to one: you get my complete attention and you can learn in privacy.  Each lesson includes a quiet time lying on a table while I put hands on and encourage you to release. My teaching room is peaceful and overlooks my garden.

What you learn at Barn Hill Alexander
The technique helps you to:
  • rediscover your natural balance and coordination
  • move more lightly, easily and gracefully
  • move without stressing your joints
  • cope better with all forms of stress

The Alexander pause that refreshes
We all tend to overcomplicate life.
If we pause, we can choose. It might be a choice to move more simply when getting into or out of a chair for example, or walking, or opening a heavy door. In a lesson you look at such ordinary movements afresh.
It might also be a choice to stay calm and quiet in the face of stress. Practising quiet in your movements can be a good path to finding emotional quiet.

Using your energy more efficiently
As well as gradually lessening stiffness or pain, Alexander lessons can be energising: when you waste less energy tensing up, you have more to spend on your loved ones, on your work, on what you value most in life.

A pupil says

it is no exaggeration to say my lessons with yvette have been life-changing.

i have become much more centred in myself physically and emotionally.

life has become more enjoyable.

I have a lighter freer more pleasurable
experience of day to day living.

my relationship with my body has become better and using the technique means I can now do more and enjoy what I am doing
in a way I never thought possible.

the lessons have in a gentle way deepened my relationships, giving me a deep sense of peace and enabling me more and more
to appreciate the joy of living.
